Wrestlingfever Exklusivinterview - Eric Escobar

Hallo, mein Name ist Escobar...

The fans know you as "Eric Escobar" from the WWE but actually it was a long way to reach world wrestling entertainment and so your
experience gained in the WWC and in the promotion of Carlos
Colon. what are your thoughts of the WWC as a promotion and as your former employer?

ERIC: Well I actually started with the IWA back in 2000, I honestly think not only one but both companies are a great way to learn your craft, they are both different in a way, IWA has been more modern in terms of the style and production while WWC has been more conservative, but both companies good in their own right.

Carlos`s sons Carlito and Primo are as well known from wwe television. Many sources maintain that there were frequent problems with Primo and your person behind the scenes. Some Internet rumours even blame this situation for your wwe release. how did it really happen?

ERIC: Like you said that was just a RUMOR, it never happened. I guess someone had an axe to grind with me and the made some stuff up just to get to me or to get me in trouble. Its sad but its the truth. I get along great with both Primo and Carlito we actually stay in touch we text each other from time to time so I guess there were and are no problems between us.

The opportunity of working with the wwe often remains a dream in
many professional careers. How did you get your position in the
company?

ERIC: It took me some time but I signed my original developmental deal in 2005, I went to DSW then we all got transferred to FCW so it was a bit of a process. I held titles in each of the companies I worked for but like I said it was a process.

"Eric Escobar" was your wwe gimmick. Who came up with this idea and how did you like your role as a protégé of vickie guerrero?

ERIC: The character changed so many times before it even got to TV, and it wasn't me. It was more like playing a part in a movie or something, but hey you gotta play the hand you're dealt.

The name came from a list of names creative asked us to write and I always liked that last name so I guess that was the one that made the cut.

Working with Vickie was a great experience, she is a classy, funny, sweet and fun to be around with lady. I think she's an asset to the company.

Is there something you really wanted to do in the wwe if you had the chance?

ERIC: yeah I actually wanted to be more myself and to actually have more time to evolve as a character on WWE tv as opposed to have stayed in developmental as long as I was, but I have no regrets about the situation.

Wikipedia explains that you're a big fan of kurt angle and the mic work of dwayne "the rock" johnson. Do you have any other idols nowadays or are there other wrestlers you admire or look up to?

ERIC: Sure there are plenty, Edge, HHH,Jericho, Taker, Cena....I mean there are so many of them for the fact that each bring something different to the table.

Many people don't know about your first wwe appearances in 2005.
What do you think about your FCW training and did you make any friends there at the time?

ERIC: I'm sure I did make some friends but I know I also made some enemies. Its the nature of this business not everyone is gonna like you.

I made some friends some of whom I stay in touch with, some just forgot about me so I guess they were no my friends after all. All the trainers in FCW I stay in touch with, Steve Keirn, Dr Tom Prichard, Norman Smiley and Dusty Rhodes they always keep an eye on me, they either text me to see what I'm up to and stuff so its good to feel that you are missed.

You received the FCW tag title and even their world heavyweight
championship. How do you remember your whc title win?

ERIC: it felt great, it was awesome to feel that the company believed so much in your work that they will give you the "ball" to run with.

The american wrestling style is mostly new to foreigners. What is the difference between the american and the puerto rican style of pro wrestling?

ERIC: Puertorican style is more brawling, we are natural fighters and we are "hot headed" so I guess that comes to us as second nature.

what kind of gimmick did you like to play and Which were your favorite athletes you wanted to wrestle in the wwe?

ERIC: Like I said before I just like being myself, an aggressive smart ass...hahaha. I'm a fun guy to be around, but I also get annoyed very easily.

If I got to chose who to get in the ring with I guess it would have to be The Rock, I think he was an amazing performer, but also, Cena, Edge, HHH, Taker just to name a few.

Was there any opportunity for you to wrestle here in germany in the
past? How is your knowledge about our country?

ERIC:I guess I did wrestle there with WWE I'm just not sure, ha ha ha.

Knowledge of your country is limited to there are a lot of beautiful women there, I'm not a history buff or anything like that so my apologies.

You've surely met Chris "The Bambikiller" Raaber aka Christoph Hertzog in the fcw. He leaved, before he had the chance to appear on wwe television. What are your thoughts about the austrian?

ERIC: I think he's a great guy I get along with him. At 1 point the guys were telling me he was doing this thing with his name that sounded a lot like the "Essssscobar" I do. I didn't see it that way but if it was, thank you I'm flattered.

Which role would you prefer for a debut in a major promotion - heel or face (WHY)?

ERIC: either way as long as I'm having fun and the fans are enjoying themselves.

You're still active since you've left the wwe. What' next in line for you?

Eric: I'm currently the IWA world heavyweight champion in Puerto Rico, and I just take one day at the time.

What is your opinion of tna wrestling and is a wwe comeback still
possible?

ERIC: TNA is good I mean if they were bad they would've been cancelled already.

I hope there is a comeback for me, but you never know.

What do you think why the wwe had to release you? are there any
reasons for this release of a promising young talent?

Eric: I have no clue, but like I said before is just a matter of someone not liking you and you not knowing about it.

Danke!
