WF: Ladies and Gentlemen, today I've got an interview with Kris Kloss, the
Announcer from Wrestling Society X, How are you, Kris? KRIS: Doing good,
thank you!
WF: Is "Kris Kloss" your real or a stage name? It sounds
like "Kris Kross," young rappers from the early 90s? KRIS: It is indeed
my real name. When I was younger though, I was teased a bit from my friends when
the popular rap group came on the scene
WF: From the "Senior Public
Relations Manager" to the TV Host of Wrestling Society X, how did this become?
KRIS: I got my start at a place called, "Slammers Wrestling Gym" here in
LA. It was the first and only independent wrestling gym/museum ever. When
Slammers seised operations, I became the official ring announcer for Southern
California Championship Wrestling (SCCW). SCCW was formed by Slammers alumni,
including Kevin Kleinrock and referee Patrick Hernandez. About a year into SCCW,
Rob Black, who owned and operated an adult film company and just got done
working with Paul Heyman in ECW by supplying Heyman porn girls such as Jasmine
St. Claire and others. Heyman and Black eventually butted heads and stopped
working together. It was then that Rob Black happened to get a SCCW flyer
distributed at a WWE house show in Anaheim. Rob and Kevin eventually formed XPW.
With Kevin's promoting skill, current SCCW roster and Rob Black's money, the
rest is history. I was fortunate enough to have been promoted from ring
announcer to play-by-play man.
WF: How is it to announce "Play by Play"
? KRIS: By now it really comes natural. In the beginning it took me a
little while to find my own flavor, but after doing about 130 TV episodes and
dozens of home videos, it has now become second nature.
WF: Do you still
have favourites, idols in the wrestling business (please tell more about it, why
you like them)? KRIS: Flair, Martel, The Von Erichs, The Freebirds,
Gorilla Monsoon, Bill Mercer, Jesse Ventura, Mean Gean, Bobby Heenan
WF:
In the first episode of WSX, we saw you with a Scorpions T-Shirt. This is a
German rock band. KRIS: Yes, they are my favorite band! As you probably
know, they are the biggest and most successful rock to ever come out of Germany,
and in my book they are the greatest band of all time
WF: WSX is a
project from Kevin Kleinrock and Houston Curtis, a concept for MTV. How Do you
like the concept and what will you do better? KRIS: Well, it was
actually a concept of Kevin and Houston, not MTV. It was pitched to MTV, and
they loved the idea. Right now the only thing I would do different is get more
ads/commercials on MTV
WF: The shows also where taped weeks before they
aired MTV? Is it possible to see live WSX events in the near Future?
KRIS: Right now we are only focused on the TV product. But there have
been discussions about having house shows, even possibly international house
shows. But keep in mind, it has only been "TALKED" about so far.
WF: The
Ratings are not so good. Many people say that this could be the fast end of WSX,
what do you think about the ratings? KRIS: Well, this goes back to the
commercials. WWE, TNA both get about 10 times the promoting that we get. I think
not enough people know about us yet, but I think once they know of the show and
watch, it will be more successful. Because so far we have been getting very
positive feedback from our viewers.
WF: Can you please tell us something
about the "WSX-Extra" ? KRIS: "WSXtra" is the Internet broadcast of
Wrestling Society X exclusively on www.wsx.mtv.com. It features the stars that
did not make the TV show that particular week.
WF: WSX shows Live Acts,
like Three 6 Mafia, Good Charlotte, Styles P and many more. How are the
reactions from the worker and the Fans? KRIS: Better than I thought. So
far we have been getting a good cross over of attention from non-wrestling fans.
At the same time, the band members only chime in once in a while and let us do
the announcing.
WF: On TV we can see only 30 minutes from the show. It
all looks like very fast and many people say, that the fans see to much "High
Spot" at a WSX show. Now, you show that, because the time limit is so short, or
is this the concept of WSX? KRIS: Both. The show is 30 mins, so we have
to be a bit faster at times. However, on a 2 hour broadcast of Raw or any other
wrestling show, the average time of a match ranges anywhere from 3 - 10 minutes,
the main event a little longer. Well, our matches are really not any shorter
than their matches. Also, WSX is an "in your face" fast paced, action show. This
is the style of the WSX.
WF: Vampiro is the first WSX Champion. He is a
WCW Legend. Can you please tell us something about the work about Vampiro and
you? We read, that Vampiro also makes some bookings. KRIS: He is a
leader. He really knows how to bring everyone together and eliminate the "bad
apples" in the group.
WF: 6 Pac, alias Sean Waltman, is a Title
Contender! Sometimes, we read in the press a lot of negative things about him.
Is the contract with him a hype for WSX? KRIS: He is a really humble,
nice guy. When it is time to perform, he is very professional.
WF: Teddy
Hart is a high flyer, a technical Wrestler with a lot of nice moves. He goes
always a step more! Now, how is it to work with a guy like him? KRIS:
It's great because you never know what he is going to do next. He is very
dedicated to his craft.
WF: Do you still have a favorite Match from WSX?
KRIS: The Steel Cage Time Bomb Exploding Deathmatch between Team Dragon
Gate and The Filth and The Fury.
WF: Do you still have a wish for WSX? A
Wrestler or Live Act (And why them)? KRIS: Scorpions
WF: What do
you think about the future of WSX? The second Series will be taped in march?
KRIS: Hopefully it will be, there has been no official confirmation as
of right now
WF: Do you still watch other companies like WWE or TNA
(what do you think about these shows and companies)? KRIS: When I have
time. I am so busy that I miss these shows at times
WF: Who should be,
in your mind, the next WSX Champion? KRIS: Hard to say right now, it is
so early to tell
WF: We also reports about MMA, UFC, K1, Pride and many
more. You are interested in MMA? Do you watch it? KRIS: A little bit. I
work on the show "Valor" fighting. go to www.bigvisionentertainment.com for more
info.
WF: Do you have some words for the wrestling fans from Germany,
Austria and the Switzerland? KRIS: Thanks for all your support, please
be patient, we will do everything in out power to bring you guys WSX. I have
been getting a ton of emails from German fans. Many of which ask me about the
spelling of my first and last name, and yes, it is a German name :) Thanks again
for all the compliments and your support.
WF: Kris, thank you very much!
KRIS: My pleasure!
