Ladies and Gentlemen, today i have the pleasure to do a exclusive Interview with former 3 time WCW Television and one time WWE Intercontinental Champion Marc Mero.
WF: First of all, thank you very much, Marc, it`s a pleasure for wrestlingfever to do this Interview with you, hope you`re fine?
Marc: Thank you, I am doing great!
WF: Many of us know you as "Johnny B. Badd" and "The Wildman", but your history starts as Amateur-Boxer. Your career was sidelined after your nose was broken in an accident. But how did that happen: From Boxing to Pro-Wrestling?
Marc: When I shattered my nose I was 20 years old. Only two weeks away from making my pro-debut in boxing. Now it would be a year before I could resume full training including sparring. In that time off I started to hang out with the wrong crowd. Getting into drinking and doing drugs. One year turned into two and two turned into four and four turned into ten. Now I'm 30 years old. I was watching wrestling on TV with 5 of my friends and I just starred at the TV and said
"I CAN DO THIS"! Within a year I was making my debut on national TV.
WF: Do you have idols (Pro-Wrestling, Family, Media)?
Marc: When I was younger I enjoyed wrestlers like Superstar Billy Graham, Bruno Sammartino, Bobo Brazil and Chief White Owl, just to name a few.
WF: In the 1990`s you travelled to Tampa, Florida to train under the under the Malenkos, a legendary wrestling-family! 1991 you debutet already for a smaller league named "Floridian Sun Coast Professional Wrestling Promotion". Several months later, you attended to WCW (to loose in a Match against Doom). That is a very short time for a "Rookie". Only one year training. Are my informations right and what do you think about the early start?
Marc: I believe I debuted in "Floridian Sun Coast Professional Wrestling Promotion" in 1990. It did come very quickly. I siigned my first contract in 1991 with WCW. I knew this is where I belong!
WF: Several Month`s later, you signed to a contract by (the booker at this time) Dusty Rhodes. What can you tell us about your first Days in WCW, Dusty Rhodes and Eric Bischoff?
Marc: Dusty gave me the break I needed to start my career. When ever I see him I always thank him! I even have a plaque at my gym in Florida dedicated to "The American Dream". When I first started I was so Green, no real experience except a few matches at that point. I really worked hard to improve and was voted PWI Rookie of the year. I soon became one of the most improved wrestlers. Eric Bischoff had a great vision and for a while it worked.
WF: You won 3 Television Titles at WCW. Do you still have one favourit match from this time?
Marc: I guess it has to be the first time I won the TV Title from Lord Steven Regal.
WF: After WCW you signed a contract with WWE. The "Wildman" was born and you startet a feud against "Triple H". On september 23, 1996, you won the vakant WWE Intercontinental Titel in a tournament match against Ron "Farooq" Simmons. You held this title one month. What does this titlewin mean to you?
Marc: It was huge at the time, I won the Intercontinental tournmant to win the title. I had to beat Owen Hart Stone Cold Steve Austin and then Farooq in the finals. A very exciting time in my career.
WF: In a match a "Over the Edge" 1997, du defeated Sable with a small package. How is it for a Pro-Wrestler (and man) to wrestle agianst a women? Do you like it personly or is this a bad capitel of your past pro-wrestling carreer?
Marc: The match against Sable was designed where she had no chance of getting hurt. I don't think fans want to see men and women wrestle eachother.
WF: OK; one last Question to WWE. You left the company 1999 because various nagging injuries and a shoulder surgery. Your Retirement follows 2005, after some Matches for TNA! Is a a return to WWE or TNA sometimes possible? Many people of this business say: "Never say never!"
Marc: I also say never say never! Right now I am speaking at schools in the Florida area with my program "Champion of Choices" It's about choices, setting goals, finding your passion in life! www.championofchoices.com
WF: What do you think about TNA? Could it be sometimes to compete with WWE?
Marc: Never say Never! LOL
WF: You became some comments attracted criticism from wrestlers such Dave Finlay who claimed, that you had "nothing to do with this business". That sounds hard for me. What do you think about it?
Marc: What is Dave Finlay suppose to say? I know what the locker room is like and you certainley couldn't say something negative about your company. Shortly after he spoke 10 more wrestlers were suspended. Things haven't changed that much...
WF: One of your Charakter, "Johnny B- Badd", was absolutly over. You came to the ring, with the "Badd Blaster", something like a "gun" that fired confetti to the crowd. The fans love it and we want to know; that was your idea?
Marc: The Badd Blaster was my idea. I just wanted to have fun with my entrance.
WF: Please allow me only one Question to Rena "Sable": How does a man like you think about the photoshooting for the Playboy-Magazine. Everybody can see your wife (at this time) nude. I think personly, this is very different for a man and husband, or?
Marc: At this time we had a nice relationship and I was very secure in our marriage. It wasn't difficult for me.
WF: You opened 2005 the "Marc Mero Body Slam Training Institute" in Florida. What can you tell us about that? Is this only a Pro-Wrestling school, or did you also give training in boxing?
Marc: Marc Mero Body Slam is one on one personal training. Getting people in the best shape of thier lives. www.mmbodyslam.com
WF: WrestlingFever says "thank you very, very much for this awesome interview and your honste answers! Hope to seen you soon on TV again!
Marc: Thank you! I have so many great memories from wrestling in Germany. Please say hi to Alex Wright, he was one of my closest friends in the wrestling business...A great Man!
